KUALA LUMPUR: India became new champions of under-19 cricket when they defeated South Africa by 13 runs in the final of the Uner-19 World Cup cricket tournament here on Sunday.
Winning the toss, South Africa put India into batting and bowled them out for 159 runs in 45.4 overs.
Tanmay Srivastova top scored with 46. Wayne Parnell, Matthew Arnold and Roy Adams took two wickets each.
In reply, South Africa lost three wickets quickly when the play was stopped due to rain. When the play resumed again, South Africa required 116 to win in 25 overs as per D/L method.
Their wickets fell one by one at regular intervals and they could score 103 runs in the required overs for the loss of eight wickets.
Reeza Hendricks top scored with 35 runs while Ajitesh Argal, Sidath Kaul and Ravindra Jadeja claimed two wickets each.
