LAHORE: Pakistan fast bowler Muhammad Asif, who was detained by Dubai Authorities on suspicion of possessing an illegal substance, has been freed.

Mr. Asif was detained at the airport at around 8 a.m. local time on Sunday while on his way to Lahore from Mumbai. He was returning home after the IPL Twenty20 league.

At a press conference in Lahore, Shafqat Naghmi, the Chief Operating Officer of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said: “Asif has not been charge-sheeted as yet for possessing any drugs or banned substances.

The substance found on him has been sent for laboratory tests after which the situation will become clearer.”http://geo.tv/images/shim.gif

LAHORE: Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Asif’s release has further been delayed as the decision will be taken after test reports will be produced to Dubai’s Prosecutor Office on Thursday.

According to Geo News correspondent in Dubai Mudassar Butt, no action could be made due to closing of the office hours on Wednesday and now Asif’s blood, urine and chemicals reports will be received by the lawyers on Thursday.

Besides, Pakistan ambassador in Dubai Ehsanullah has denied the speculations of Asif’s release and said that no such decision has yet been made.

According to PCB representative in Dubai Nadeem Akram, these reports will be provided to the PCB lawyers on Thursday at 2-00 pm (Pakistan standard time).

If these reports are in faovour of Mohammad Asif then he will be freed otherwise he will be produced before the magistrate.

Meanwhile, PCB media director Suhail Mansoor has confirmed the news that the release of Mohammad Asif would not be possible before 2-00 pm on Thursday.
